Scholarship Opportunities for Malawians for further studies abroad
If you are a 'youthful Malawian' and in Malawi, either graduating soon or graduated recently from the
University of Malawi (UNIMA), Mzuzu University (MZUNI) or from a foreign university, going for further
studies might be an option for you. You might be considering options for Masters Degree, PhD or indeed
you might be wanting another BS/BA! It is very difficult to think of doing that without securing a scholarship,
unless you are one of the less than 0.01% of the very fortunate Malawians whose parents are that rich to
pay for your fees and upkeep in the UK or USA!
I remember that when I was in my final year of Elec Engineering at the Poly in 2001/2002, I spent many
hours in the Computer Room at night and weekends, supposedly 'doing my project' but in reality...? I was
spending 50% of that time looking for scholarships and how I could quickly connect to further studies! I
was lucky that chance came quicker than I thought and before sitting for degree exams. But I also got a
rejection - one funding body (one of the ten in the list below!) told me to wait until I graduated! I was angry
with them but had no chance of telling them how I felt!
Any way, rather than you having to spend hundreds of hours of your project work or dozens of hours when
you are supposed to do work for your employee at work, I have done some of that for you! Below, you will
find a list of some of the well known Scholarships that apply to Malawians. Please bear in mind that this
list is not comprehensive. It is only a starting point, do look further than this. But I will also work hard to try
and keep it as up to date and as exhaustive as I can manage. I will count on the large pool of Malawian
friends and colleagues at home and abroad. So, if you happen to be one of those, and your scholarship is
not listed below, please drop me a line with the details and I will add them below. Let's help our fellow
Malawians who also want to realise their dream!
